Heart Attack Survivor Meets His Hero

PARKER, Colo. (CBS4) ― A man who accidently locked himself in a car while he was having a heart attack met the man who saved him on Thursday.

Ed Flegeolle, 67, was not feeling well on July 7th, so he made a trip to the hospital. When his wife arrived with him at Parker Hospital he went into cardiac arrest in his car. As she stepped out from the vehicle, the doors locked behind her.

A security guard in the area, John Kornock, came to Flegeolle's aide. He took a rock and knocked out the back window of the car, and then crawled in to get Flegeolle out.

Flegeolle had not taken a breath in about four minutes when Kornock got him out, and the hospital staff said he was dead when he was rescued.
The staff administered CPR, and brought Flegeolle back to life.

While Kornock said the hospital emergency staff are the real heroes, Flegeolle said Cornack is a hero in his book.

"I owe him my life that's for sure. He's a great person. I saw him go up and down the hallway after that the next four or five days I think, and just look in and wave, and that was it."

Flegeolle is recovering, and is expected to leave the hospital in the next few days. He and his wife will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in October.
