Chemical Explosion In Mead Kills 1

MEAD, Colo. (AP/CBS4) ― One person died following a small explosion and fire at a chemical manufacturing plant in Mead Friday morning.

The blast occurred about 7 a.m. Friday at Boulder Scientific Company.

Weld County Undersheriff Margie Martinez says Leslie Robertson, 37 of Loveland, was burned in the incident, and was taken by air ambulance to University of Colorado Hospital where he later died.

Martinez says no other injuries were reported, and that the building's sprinkler system extinguished the fire.

The cause of the blast and ensuing fire are under investigation.
