A teacher at a private catholic school in Edwards faces three charges of misdemeanor child abuse after allegedly duct taping the mouths of three sixth grade students in September.
The police report states Rozy Gonzalez had other students hold down the children while duct tape was placed on their faces. Another student apparently did the taping.
Gonzalez is a Spanish teacher at Saint Clare of Assisi Elementary Catholic School.
Rob Spangler, the father of one of the students who was taped, is still upset. He says the school tried to hide the fact the incident happened and thinks more charges should be filed against school officials.
"It was clear to me that the school tried to; I'm going to use the word 'cover up,'" Spangler said.
School officials have denied CBS4's repeated requests for comment. Spangler says he's been shut out by the school as well.
"I'm a parent that reported the abuse of three children and you would think that the school would want to know that a teacher is abusing the kids in the school," Spangler said. "I find that totally ironic and wrong-headed."
Eagle County District Attorney Mark Hurlbert said the school is currently under investigation.
"I'm totally outraged, totally," Spangler said. "You don't duct tape people
you don't even duct tape animals."
Hurlbert didn't give a time frame for when the investigation might conclude.
Gonzalez is scheduled in court on Jan. 6.
