Water Managers Update State Drought Plan

PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) ― The state is updating its drought-response plan to include the potential effects of global warming and the expected doubling of Colorado's population.

The revision is expected to be complete by 2010.

State Engineer Dick Wolfe said Thursday that drought planning is part of water managers' jobs. He spoke at a statewide conference on global warming.

The state formed a task force after the widespread 2002 drought to advise Colorado officials on what steps to take when droughts are identified and to coordinate responses and government assistance.

Water managers are looking at more water storage and recharging depleted aquifers to meet rising demand.
