Littleton Officer Shoots Himself At Training

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (CBS4) ― A Littleton police officer accidently shot himself during training Wednesday morning at the Highlands Ranch Law Enforcement Training Academy, officers said.

The accident happened at about 8:15 a.m. at 9008 South Highway 85.

The gun fired while he was putting the weapon in a holster, investigators said.

The officer was transported to the hospital. Authorities said his wound to the leg was not serious. The officer was alert and conscious throughout his initial treatment.

Littleton police said the Douglas County Sheriff's Office will investigate. The police department said it would conduct an internal investigation, which will include a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding the incident as well as a policy review.
