People for and against a $45 million housing and office development in Douglas County attended a planning commission meeting Monday nice to voice their positions.
The county is deciding whether to allow the development on 5,100 acres of land near Plum Creek Acres.
Thos opposed feel the development would ruin their rural way of life.
"We have also enjoyed the quiet peacefulness, privacy and safety of living in this unique rural area," said Cathy Hollifield.
The meeting in Castle Rock lasted until nearly midnight because so many people wanted to speak out about the proposal.
"I don't see Highlands Ranch as a negative development," said Chris Gandomcar. "The people I know who live in this area speak very highly of their community and all those trees planted will cover all those groups like it did in beautiful Washington Park and beautiful Greenwood Village."
The land has not yet been zoned.
Possible uses include 11,000 homes and a soccer stadium complex.
The planning commission decided to wait on any decision until later this month.
