Two people were killed in two accidents Monday morning during the rush hour, Denver police said.
The first crash happened at about 7:20 a.m. at Colfax and Harrison Street. Police said a car heading east lost control, veered in the westbound lanes and hit another vehicle head-on. The driver of the second vehicle died.
The 17-year-old male driver of the first car was taken into custody.
The second crash happened at about 8:25 a.m. on eastbound 6th Ave. near Federal. Three cars were involved in a non-injury accident. The drivers were outside looking at the damage when a fourth car hit one of the other cars from the original accident. The car hit and killed one person on the highway.
The investigation closed eastbound 6th Ave. for more than 3 hours. Parts of Colfax were also closed for several hours while that accident was investigated.
An apparent suicide investigation earlier Monday morning kept eastbound 6th Ave. closed between Wadsworth and Sheridan until about 6:15 a.m., creating taffic jams earlier in the morning commute.
