Scooter Driver Dies After Aurora Hit & Run

Police Arrest Suspect After His Return To Scene

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) ― Police in Aurora were investigating a hit-and-run crash Thursday morning that left a driver of a scooter dead.

The crash happened shortly after 6 a.m. at Parker Road at East Quincy Avenue and it involved three cars in addition to a scooter.

The scooter driver, a man, died soon after the crash and the intersection was closed while police investigated.

Authorities said one of the drivers, who was wearing a black business suit, ran into Cherry Creek State Park after the crash. Officers arrested him on felony traffic charges after he returned to the scene.

According to the Aurora Police Department, two cars and the scooter were "stopped in the rightmost left turn lane (southbound) on South Parker Road." The suspect's vehicle then allegedly rear-ended the scooter and knocked the rider off. The vehicle then hit one of the cars which then hit the other car. All of the cars were heavily damaged.

It appeared that none of the other people in the crash were injured, although two were taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Officers didn't say if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
