3 Vets Honored By Craig Hospital

Slideshow: Colorado Soldiers Killed In Iraq

Section: Serving With Honor

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4) ― Wounded soldier Matt Keil and his wife, Tracy, have a few more dollars thanks to a big effort in Commerce City.

Saturday, people at VFW Post 4444 put together a benefit auction for Keil. He was paralyzed by a sniper's bullet in Iraq.

More than $10,000 was raised as donated items were auctioned off.

"Oh I feel awesome. I feel very honored to be here," Keil said. "It just goes to show that there are people who are willing to step forward and support the troops coming home. It's awesome."

People lined up to meet Keil. Among them was Tony Lapenna, who has cerebral palsy and is confined to a wheelchair. Tony donated $20.
