Pipe Bomb Found In Colorado Springs, No One Hurt

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) ― Colorado Springs police are investigating the origin of a pipe bomb found in a residential area about a half mile from two schools.

A man discovered the 4-inch device behind an SUV on a northeast Colorado Springs street about 12:45 p.m. Monday. The resident picked up the object and showed it to a neighbor who is a firefighter, who identified the device as a pipe bomb.

The Colorado Springs bomb squad responded to the scene. Officers went door-to-door to warn residents to stay inside and away from windows, and a robot moved the device to the middle of the street.

The robot covered the bomb with sandbags before authorities detonated it about 4 p.m.

No one was hurt.

Investigators hope to use the remnants of the bomb to determine its origin.
