State Climatologist and CSU professor Nolan Doesken said a snowstorm like this isn't unheard of in October, but it is unusual.
"You add it all up and it came to 21.4 inches, it's a good storm," said Doesken when he measured the snow piled up in his Fort Collins yard Thursday morning.
"We don't get that many 20 inch and greater storms, and furthermore, it's still October," said Doesken. "It's happened before and it will happen again, but it doesn't happen that often and the interesting thing about this year, is this is, really for the Front Range, the fourth snowstorm already."
Doesken said we've already seen about 25 inches of snow in an average measurable area. Typically, the Front Range will get about 56 inches in a season, and we've already seen about half for the season in October.
