Cinco De Mayo Big Business For Advertisers
DENVER (CBS4) ―
Denver's Cinco de Mayo celebration is a good time to enjoy food and music but its big business for advertisers.
"This year we have 77,000 more square feet of exhibitor space" said Andrea Barela, an event organizer.
More companies than ever are lining up this year to target the Latino community.
"I think people recognize the value of the Latino community and how important it is to get that captive audience," Barela said.
NBA Nation made its first appearance in Denver in hopes of reaching out to a more diverse crowd.
"We know Cinco de Mayo is a big deal here in Denver so we wanted to be where all the fun was at," said Michael Garcia, NBA Nation emcee.
Organizers expect 400,000 people this weekend so exhibitors will get lots of exposure.
"Because Colorado celebrates it so big, people not only come from Colorado come," Barela said. "Companies recognize that and so they come back every year and they have a good experience every year."
This is the Navy's fourth year partnering with the festivities.
"We'd like to communicate to the public the contributions that Hispanics and all minorities have made to the armed forces of the United States," said Lt. Ralph Kris Hooper.
Even though the vendors may want more business, the festival is about celebrating culture.
"You can be of whatever income level and have a good time," Barela said. "You can get a lot of free stuff, you just come and have a good time."
