Denver Music Promoter Delivers A Weekend Of Dreams
DENVER (CBS4) ―
The upcoming Mile High Music Festival is the brainchild of promoter Chuck Morris. It's a feat only someone with his experience could pull off.
"If you were new in the business or did something else in the business I would say it would be unbearable and probably impossible," Morris said.
Morris has spent more than 35 years promoting music in Colorado.
In order to put the weekend together he had to deal with politics and neighborhoods, zoos and soccer fields to finally find a home for the festival at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City.
On July 19 and 20 music will take over the fields outside the the park.
"It's 44 acts. When you have acts like Dave Matthews Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, John Mayer, OAR, Spearhead, Colbie Callat it's an amazing thing with five stages. Two monster stages and we have two tent stages. One of the tents is the size of a football field."
"It's basically continuous music from a little before (noon) until about midnight."
For Morris the weekend promises to deliver plenty of excitement.
"It's a big day in the sun, a big day, a weekend to watch the greatest music in the world."
Morris worked with Barry Fey for years in bringing both new and established groups to Colorado, then broke away on his own for a number of years before heading up LiveNation's concert efforts for the region.
He recently left that position to create the Rocky Mountain office for AEG Live Music Entertainment. (AEG is owned by Denver entrepreneur Phillip Anschutz.)
