Coloradans Urged To Recycle Their Christmas Trees

DENVER (CBS4) ― About 615,000 natural Christmas trees decorated Colorado households this holiday season, according to Colorado Recycles. And instead of winding up in the trash, the trees are being put to good use for a second time.

Most communities are recycling Christmas trees and providing drop off locations for people to take their trees. In return, people can take Christmas tree mulch for use in their garden or yard.

Colorado Recycles estimates that about 90 percent of the natural trees in Colorado will be recycled this year.

People using the drop off sites in their communities say it's convenient and a good thing to do.

"We need to recycle these things and so they make it easy for us," said a recycler.

"'Well we recycle every year," another said. "It helps the economy and it helps the environment."
