DENVER (CBS4) ― A Centennial-based organization is helping to send relief to Chinese orphans affected by Monday's earthquake disaster.

"There are several orphanage buildings already damaged," said Joshua Zhong, co-founder and president of Chinese Children Adoption International.

It's the largest adoption organization in the world for Chinese children.

Since the early 1990s, CCAI has found homes in Colorado for 2,500 Chinese orphans.

Zhong has close relations to orphanages run by the Chinese government.

He's particularly concerned about two orphanages in hard-hit Sichaun Province at Deyang and Mianyang.

"They need tents, water and food obviously and warm clothes and medicine," he explains. "These are very, very urgent needs."

As of Thursday, there were no confirmed casualties involving Chinese orphans, but "the liklihood is huge," according to Zhong.

For Zhong, the disaster is personal. One of his own daughters was once a Chinese orphan.

He says the money raised by his relief effort will first go to emergency supplies and medicine, but donations will also be used to help rebuild.
