Aurora Hit & Run Suspect Charged In Court
CENTENNIAL, Colo. (CBS4) ―
The man accused of killing three people in a hit and run crash last week in Aurora was in court Thursday morning to be advised of the charges against him.
Francis Hernandez, 23, wore orange jail clothes while relatives of Marten Kudlis, 3, and Patricia Guntharp sat in the front row of an Arapahoe County District Courtroom.
The family members stared at Hernandez as he walked to the podium in shackles. His attorneys said they didn't want the charges read in court.
Prosecutors later said Hernandez faces three counts of vehicular homicide (a class 3 felony with a penalty range of 4-12 years per count) and three counts of leaving the scene of an accident where death occurred (a class 3 felony with a penalty range of 4-12 years per count). He also faces one count of vehicular assault (a class 5 felony with a penalty range of 1-3 years), one count of leaving the scene of an accident with injuries (a class 5 felony with a penalty range of 1-3 years) and one count of driving under restraint (misdemeanor).
The lawyers and judge discussed the defendants bond. Hernandez's attorneys said the current bond was excessive.
The judge said the detainer by Immigration and Customs enforcement raised the bond to $350,000.
Hernandez's next court hearing is set for Nov. 10 at 1:15 p.m.
