DENVER (CBS4) ― Colorado's Asian-American community is taking action in response to a controversial editorial that ran in the University of Colorado's Campus Press last week.

The article, which was meant to be a satire, called on white students to declare war on Asians. The article was written by Max Carson, who has been in the news in the past about comments he made in a CU class following the Virginia Tech shootings.

Friday night, members of the Asian community gathered at the University Of Denver to discuss the article, its impact on them, and how they planned to respond to it. On Wednesday, they protested on campus.

Students at the meeting said the article was hateful and hurtful.

"We as a community seek the immediate resignation of the Campus Press staff and university faculty directly responsible for the publication of these articles," student David Chiu said to the crowd.

The article says, "If it's war the Asians want, it's war they'll get." It also states, "They hate us all and I say it's time we started hating them back."

"I was upset and I cried, but now my rage, my anger is channeled into something productive," student Amie Ha said.

The uproar highlighted not only the treatment of Asian students, but all minorities on the campus.

CU's chancellor and editors of the Campus Press have apologized for the article.

"On behalf of the university, I issued a statement that did apologize to those people who were hurt or wounded," said G.P. "Bud" Peterson, CU Chancellor. "The statement went beyond an apology. It went to a condemnation of the article and what it represented."

The Campus Press staff will also have to go through diversity training.
