The court concluded the neighbors' attachment to the land is stronger than the true owners. That means the neighbors can get a chunk of the land for free.

A group of protestors rallied Sunday outside the home of a couple in Boulder shouting chats of "thieves and liars" at the pair tried to leave their home. The protestors were angry that the couple used a little known state law to take possession of some of the land next door.
The land bas bought decades ago by Don and Susie Kirlin. The Kirlins hoped to build their dream home on the plot.
The neighbors, Edith Stevens and Richard McClain claimed they used the land for 25 years to get access to their own backyard.
State law says that if no one protests another person's use of land for 18 years, the person can claim it as their own and legally gain possession.
"It's so mean, it's so cruel," said Deb Grojean, one of the protestors. "It's so ... it's unbelievable. It's greed, it's just greed. Let the people have their land."
Stevens and McClain said they would not comment Sunday because of an ongoing legal battle.
The Kirlins have planned to appeal a judge's ruling on their case.
