Missing Hikers West Of Boulder Found OK
NEDERLAND, Colo. (CBS4) ―
Two hikers were found alive and uninjured northwest of Nederland early Monday morning after being reported missing the night before, Boulder County Sheriff's deputies said.
The Rocky Mountain Rescue Group found Patrick Nelson, 21, of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Sean Klomparens, 20, of Rockville, MD in the city of Boulder's watershed in the Indian Peaks Wilderness.
The pair was walking out with rescuers after being found near Goose Lake in the city of Boulder watershed, northeast of South Arapahoe Peak at about 8:40 a.m. Monday
The men said that they had gotten lost and were off their planned route.
The hikers were supposed to return to Nelson's parent's house in Windsor at 5 p.m. Sunday. The family called authorities when the hikers didn't arrive by 10 p.m.
The pair had left Saturday morning, planning to hike the Arapahoe Peak Trail out of the Buckingham Campground in the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area and then climb 13,397-foot South Arapahoe Peak.
Deputies found their car at the Buckingham Campground and searched from that point Sunday night.
Members of the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group and Nederland Fire Protection District searched area trails overnight for the pair.
The search was expanded early Monday morning with a helicopter from Flight for Life and a search dog from Front Range Rescue Dogs.
The Sheriff's Office had requested additional resources from other area search and rescue groups in anticipation of further expanding the scope of the search. That wasn't necessary.
