Fire Burns Boulder Apartment Complex Near CU

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) ― Fired burned at an apartment complex near the University of Colorado campus in Boulder Monday morning. Investigators were looking for a cause of the blaze and concerned about exposure to asbestos.

The fire was reported at about 2:30 p.m. at 1821 22nd Street. Everyone was able to get out okay.

Firefighters said a bush was on fire, possibly from a discarded cigarette. The flames spread to the apartment building and moved to the roof.

Seven units in the building suffered smoke or fire damage.

Many residents were CU students and some had already moved out for the summer.

Firefighters will gather personal belongings of the fire victims because of the dangers of asbestos exposure.
