Broncos Boss Has Special Blood Donation Connection

Written by CBS4 special projects producer Libby Smith
PARKER, Colo. (CBS4) ― Boss Bailey is new to the Denver Broncos. This is the veteran linebacker's first season in Denver, but he brought with him 288 tackles, 7 sacks, 2 interceptions, and one touchdown on the field.

Playing along side brother Champ Bailey seems like a good fit.

"I love it ... I get a chance to play here with a very good organization, get a chance to play with my brother and it's a great place to raise a family," Boss told CBS4.

Bailey moved here in March along with wife, Amber, 18-month-old Kameron, 4-year-old twins Kendall and Kadin, and 8-year-old Khalil.

"Other than being a husband, being a father is probably the greatest thing ever," Bailey said.

But this happy family had a scary start.

"It's scary enough having a kid as it is, and you bring him home all perfect and everything and five days into it you run into some troubles. And you don't know what to think or what's going on," Bailey explained.

Khalil was born with a heart defect. He had surgery when he was just 17 days and needed a blood transfusion. Then he had surgery again when he was one and needed more blood.

"One thing you can't make is blood, you know, so somebody had to give it and we're very appreciative of that," Bailey told CBS4.

"Cause in our situation too, it happened so quickly the first time that we didn't really have the chance to donate blood," adds Bailey's wife, Amber.

When thousands of Broncos fans roll up their sleeves at Drive for Life, Boss Bailey and his entire family will be cheering them on knowing that they're saving a life.
