Police Say Man Found In Yard Died In Random Attack

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (CBS4) ― Sheriff's deputies are investigating how a man's body ended up in the front yard of a home in Centennial Friday morning. A couple found the body in their yard in the 8700 block of East Philips Place at about 5:30 a.m.

Arapahoe County Sheriff's deputies said they found the young adult male lying face down with no visible trauma injuries. Deputies say he was shot. They are trying to figure out how he ended up at the home.

The victim, identified as Andrew Gelston Graham, 23, lived in the neighborhood about a mile away from where he was found. Sheriff Grayson Robinson says Graham was attacked on his walk Thursday night from a light-rail station to his home.

"To see how young the person was and well dressed and wearing a down coat. Just not the type of person you would expect to see lying dead," neighbor Rafe Wilson said.

Robinson said Graham was looking for housing in Boulder for graduate school next semester.

"We know that he was trying to connect via phone or in person with people who may have rental properties in Boulder," Robinson said. "Whether he went to Boulder or was dealing with someone here in the metro area, that's still something to be determined."
Robinson said he doesn't believe Graham's body was dumped.

"We believe he was probably in that immediate area when the assault occurred," Robinson said. "We believe it was a random act of violence."

Graham's satchel was found about three blocks away with his cell phone, passport, cash and credit cards in it.

Cyndi Graham said during a news conference Sunday that she refused to let her son enlist in the Army, thinking she was keeping him safe. She and Robinson both said Graham didn't have any enemies and would never had initiated any kind of a conflict.

"He was in such a good place. He was getting ready to go back to graduate school and he had a plan for his life," Cyndi Graham said. "He was playing his guitar and really getting very, very good at it. He was just a very good young man and didn't deserve to die like this."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office.
