Makeover Complete At Bear Creek Park

DENVER (CBS4) ― Families in southwest Denver have a freshly spruced up place to play. The city has completed renovations at Bear Creek Park at Sheridan and Hampden.

There's a new playground and also a lot of history in the park that sports a big sombrero slide that has been a fixture there for over 20 years.

The city held a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday to show off the updated park and playground and the children couldn't wait to check it out.

When the community set out to redesign the park, they wanted visitors to think about Colorado's past and celebrate its cultural heritage. The sombrero is a symbol of the neighborhood's history and a tribute to the American West.

Fossils have actually been found at the site, so the playground design includes a special sand pit were children can dig for hidden objects in the sand. There is also a history walk.
