Ice Cream Shop Reopens After Deadly Crash
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) ―
An ice cream store that was the site of a deadly accident last week is open again for business.
The Baskin Robbins at Mississippi and Havana in Aurora opened Friday morning. The owner says it's been an emotional process, but he felt like it was important to reopen as soon as possible.
"I think it will help the community kind of heal and get back to its daily life. But at the same time we wanted to be respectful to all of the victims as well so we wanted to wait until all the victims were laid to rest," owner Jason Pierce said.
Three-year-old Marten Kudlis was killed inside the shop. Debra Serecky and Patricia Guntharp died when their pickup was hit.
Francis Hernandez, 23, is charged with three counts of vehicular homicide and more. Police say he ran a red light and hit the pickup driven by Guntharp into the shop.
Hernandez has a history of 16 arrests. Law officers in Aurora say immigration agents didn't respond when they were called.
