Save Money By Using A Bartering Web Site

DENVER (CBS4) ― Cash is king these days, but for those who are short on money there is another way to get what they want -- bartering. People are now beating the recession with the modern twist on trading.

Rosyln in Monument is offering to photograph someone's wedding in exchange for bookkeeping or carpet cleaning.

Bob in Avon is looking to exchange a mountain home in the heart of Beaver Creek for a week at a vacation home in the Caribbean.

Eli Bruner was looking for someone to paint his two daughters' rooms.

"She's done all the stenciling along the ceiling, the base detail, this giant mural, the pictures on the wall here," Bruner said.

The artist transformed 6-year-old Eden's room into a princess wonderland and 3-year-old Macie now lives in the Garden of Paradise.

"There's no way we could have had this done without bartering," Bruner said.

Bruner found the artist on a Web site called U-Exchange.

"Most of the things I offer are all in the I.T. realm, because that's what I'm good at," Bruner said.

He designed and built a Web site for the muralist.

"It talks about the artist and the things she does and really helps to promote her business."

Bruner said getting into the U-Exchange bartering game is easy.

"It's really quite simple and it only takes a few minutes to get registered."

He had such a good experience, he's looking to barter again.

"Really anything related to the I.T. industry I can help with in exchange for things like auto repair, home services, plumbing, electrical; those are the things I'm looking for."

Bruner says he never would have been able to pay an artist thousands of dollars to beautify his daughters rooms.

"She knocked it out of the park."

Like thousands of barters around the world Bruner has found a creative way to save his family money.

"I can contribute my time for somebody else's time, instead of money back and forth."
