Hot Air Balloon Crashes Into Tree Near Boulder

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) ― The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate after a hot-air balloon crashed into a tree Wednesday in Boulder County.

Boulder County sheriff's officials say they were notified about 6:15 a.m. that a balloon was tangled in a tree, about 25 feet off the ground.

The balloon's basket was carrying the pilot and six passenger. No one was hurt.

Pilot Tommy Cederlund told The Camera newspaper that the wind began to gust just as the group took off.

Officials say the balloon hit a tree shortly after takeoff, ripping part of the balloon. It drifted another quarter mile before hitting the second tree.

The Boulder Fire Department used a ladder truck to rescue everyone in the basket.
