Before a woman in Denver gave an emergency birth at Denver Public Library on Tuesday, a little boy was born in a blizzard, about a month premature, and on the side of the Boulder Turnpike on Monday.
The little baby boy in Westminster is healthy and was released from the hospital Wednesday night.
Casandra Garcia knew she was going into labor on Monday when her water broke at home. She and the baby's father got in the car to head to the hospital but the car ran out of gas on Highway 36.
Rescue crews got Garcia into an ambulance, kept her warm, and coached her through childbirth. Then she and the baby finally made it to the hospital.
"I believe I had a guardian angel with me. That's what I can say. It's something that happens in movies; you hear about it every once in awhile on the news," Garcia said. "I never thought it would happen to me."
"All the credit goes to mom here," Jake Lieser with Westminster fire said. "Our job is to facilitate the delivery and intervene if complications arise. So we just kept mom comfortable and let her deliver and take care of baby."
Little Daniel Joseph is Garcia's third child.
