2 Killed In Crash After Aurora Hit & Run

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) ― Two people inside a large Ford F450 utility truck died in a crash a short time after the vehicle was reportedly involved in a minor hit and run accident early Monday morning, Aurora police said.

The hit and run happened at 9500 East Colfax Avenue at about 1:20 a.m. near Si Amigos bar.

An officer in the area saw the truck a few moments later without its lights on and driving between 60 and 70 mph in a 35 mph zone on Colfax. At that same time, dispatchers relayed a description of the suspect vehicle from the hit and run, investigators said. It matched the truck.

The officer headed east to try and locate the truck that had just sped by him.

Dispatchers then received a call about a crash at Colfax and Moline Street.

Officers found the truck there after it had crashed into a large steel pole.

The driver died at the scene after being partially thrown from the truck. The passenger died a short time later at the hospital.

Investigators said speed appears to be a factor. They are still waiting for toxicology results to learn if alcohol or drugs were a factor.
