CHSAA Punishes Arapahoe High Lacrosse Team

LITTLETON, Colo. (CBS4) ― The Colorado High School Activities Association says the Arapahoe High School lacrosse team will be banned from next year's playoffs unless it can prove changes have been made. The discipline comes after two players were accused of cheating in a state playoff game.

The alleged play was caught on tape during a game against Fort Collins. The two players do a move known as the "hidden ball trick." The players huddle, then break, leaving the opposing team guessing who has the ball.

The videotape showed in this case, one of the players hid the ball in his glove, then pulled it out when no one was looking and scored a goal.

Some parents at Arapahoe criticized CHSAA for the sanctions. They believe illegal moves happen all the time and many are not caught.

CHSAA said the fact that parents don't see it as cheating is a big part of the problem.

"The message being sent here is that winning is more important than doing things right and we have got to make sure that's not the message," said Paul Angelico of CHSAA.
