Memory Walk Part Of Wedding Plans

Written for the Web by CBS4 Special Projects Producer Libby Smith

THORNTON, Colo. (CBS4) ― On Saturday more than 7,000 walkers will gather for the Alzheimer's Association's Memory Walk.

Among the walkers will be Mike Holbrook and his new bride Jessica. The couple has done the walk for the last several years in memory of Jessica's grandmother and to honor Mike's father who have both battled Alzheimer's disease.

This year they've added the walk to their wedding plans – asking everyone who attends the wedding on Friday night to do the walk with them on Saturday morning.

"It started off as a coincidence and then we just built it in and made it a forefront to the whole wedding," Jessica explained.

Jessica heads up team "Get Sweaty for Rick and Betty." The couple is doing a lot of their wedding arrangements themselves like programs and flowers so they can donate part of their wedding money.

"We're actually putting a lot of money from our wedding – our money we could have used for our wedding toward the Memory Walk because it's the right thing to do," Mike told CBS4.

Wedding goers don't have to make a donation to participate. The couple is just excited to raise awareness and understanding of a disease that has changed their lives.

"I think it's just going to be an awesome experience to have everybody there," Jessica added.
