'Former Terrorists' Share Experience With CU

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) ― Two self-proclaimed former terrorists drew a huge crowd as they spoke the the University of Colorado in Boulder Wednesday night.

Security was tight for the speech which was titled 'Why we want to kill you."

More than 1,000 students packed the room where Walid Shoebat and Kamal Saleem spoke.

Both said there were Islamists turned Christians who were raised to hate Americans.

The men said the radical Islamist movement is growing, especially on college campuses in the United States. Some Muslims in the crowd took issue with the assertation.

Saleem and Shoebat also said American has not learned from the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

"9/11 took place, America got up, they didn't know what to do with 9/11, they hit the snooze button and went right back to sleep," said Saleem.

"When we lied to you, you believed us, when I repented, I became a Islamophob, a racist, hate monger" said Shoebat.

The speech was sponsored by the CU College Republicans and paid for with $10,000 in student fees.
