Tuskegee Airmen Honored With Highway Dedication

 Slideshow: Tuskegee Airmen's Stories

DENVER (CBS4) ― A stretch of Interstate 70 now carries a new name honoring heroes of the past.

The new Tuskegee Airmen Memorial Highway signs were on display at the Blair Caldwell Library Tuesday. They will go up between Brighton Boulevard and Tower Road.

The signs honor the African-American pilots who flew in World War II despite the discrimination of the times.

"You have to understand that they're true heroes because they fought for this country when this country wouldn't stand for them," said Rep. Terrance Carroll, D-Denver.

Several Tuskegee Airmen from Colorado where at Tuesday's ceremony. They hope the signs will inspire drivers to learn about their amazing story.
