RTD's Light Rail Lines Reopen Around Littleton

Reporting
Paul Day
LITTLETON, Colo. (CBS4) ―
RTD reopened their entire southwest light rail line for passengers on late Sunday following last week's train derailment in Littleton.
The train derailment on Dec. 11 forced Regional Transportation District officials to shut down a stretch of the C and D lines. The lines remained open only from the Oxford station to downtown since then and RTD had been using "bridge buses" to get people to and from that station.
A two-car light rail train derailed along with 25 cars from a Union Pacific coal train on Dec. 11 near Alamo and Prince. Light rail passengers felt a jolt and then their train stopped. None of the 29 passengers were hurt, but the tracks were completely blocked by the mess.
The cause of the derailment remained unknown.
Passengers on the light rail lines on Monday morning were generally impressed with RTD's efforts.
"(It was) very fast, very fast. I was very impressed. I think they did a really good job. I wasn't inconvenienced basically at all," Sandra Marty told CBS4. "I got here, got on the bus, they took me down to Oxford and got right there. I was 10, 15 minutes late to work every morning, but other than that it was fine."
"I just left the house a few minutes early," Linda Cox said. "It worked out great ... it was only a 10-15 minute difference.
"They did an excellent job. ... I think RTD had this planned in the beginning for back-up if anything happened and it worked out great. Any time you get equipment out here that quick and get it squared away, that's great."
