Survivor Of Crash Involving Denver Family Improves

DENVER (AP) ― The lone survivor of a crash on an icy stretch of Interstate 80 in Wyoming that killed three members of a prominent Denver family is improving, a family friend said Monday.

Katy Parr was in intensive care at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper recovering from broken ribs and cuts, family friend Steve Katich told the Rocky Mountain News.

"She is awake and alert. She is improving rapidly," Katich said. "She is expected to be released this week, possibly as early as the day after Christmas."

Katy is a senior at East High. Katich said she would head to Boise, Idaho, the family's destination, to recover with family.

John Parr, 59, a leader in the public interest movement who also advised mayors and governors, his wife, journalist Sandra Widener, 53, and daughter Chase, 19, were killed after their car was hit by a tractor-trailer Saturday 6 miles west of Rawlins, the Wyoming Highway Patrol said Sunday. The only one to survive the crash was 17-year-old Katy.
