New Belgium Gets 'Best Place To Work' Honors

Outside Magazine Names Fort Collins Brewing Operation 'Best Place To Work In America'

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) ― The New Belgium Brewing Company in Fort Collins may soon be getting a lot of job applications. It has been named the best place to work in America.

The may issue of Outside Magazine ranks New Belgium at the top based on benefits, compensation, job satisfaction and environmental initiatives with 250 or more employees.

Employees have access to on-site yoga, a volleyball court, a climbing wall, an indoor slide, a foosball table and ping-pong.

They enjoy a complimentary case of beer each week.

After working there for 5 years, employees get an all-expense paid pilgrimage to Belgium to learn about beer culture.

New Belgium recently doubled its bottling capacity and it is taking big steps to remain environmentally friendly as it grows.

Coming Soon: Fat Tire In A Can

New Belgium plans to offer its flagship Fat Tire Amber Ale this summer from something other than the tap or glass bottles: aluminum cans.

The brewer's new canning operation is estimated to cost about $1 million and will produce 50 to 60 cans per minute. Spokesman Bryan Simpson says that will let fans take Fat Tire to places and events where glass might not be allowed or isn't convenient.

Simpson says the Fat Tire that comes in cans will be "can-conditioned" with live yeast, so its flavor should not be affected. Despite popular perceptions about canned beer, the company's taste tests show the canned version tastes the same as the bottled brew.

Other craft brewers have also been successful using cans.
