Nebraska Agencies To Practice Terrorism Response

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) ― Nebraska may seem like an unlikely target for terrorists, but state emergency-management personnel plan on being prepared, just in case.

On Wednesday and Friday, officials will stage a fake hazardous-materials strike by terrorists in Lincoln, Scottsbluff and Grand Island. The events will test the statewide radio network that allows law-enforcement officials from different agencies and jurisdictions use to communicate. That network was launched in September.

The event will also test four hazardous-materials teams, the Nebraska Emergency Operations Center and the Joint Information Center.

Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy, the state's homeland-security director, will lead the executive group responsible for policy decisions during the exercise.
