A group in Colorado that encourages mothers to stay in the workplace or start their own businesses is helping families beat the recession.

The group "Momprenuers" has an advisory board made up of 10 mothers in the Boulder area who run their own businesses.

Momprenuers gives mother-owned businesses a boost as well as provides emotional support.

Momprenuer board member Gretchen Reid said the group helps mothers while they are on maternity leave.

"It's a huge transition to moving into motherhood," Reid said.

Lisa Van Damme agrees. She came up with her idea for a business during maternity leave. Her business deals with cloth diapers and diaper accessories.

Van Damme said she got great support from the group.

"You can't always achieve everything you want, but you move forward the best you can," Van Damme said of the advice she got.
