Molly Bloom Makes Major Strides In Recovery
DENVER (CBS4) ―
A teenager who was critically injured after the East High School prom has made major strides in her recovery.
Molly Bloom took her first steps since the May 13 accident, according to the blog that tracks her progress. Bloom lost her leg when a limousine suddenly backed up as she was climbing into it.
Bloom's family said Bloom was able to walk out of her room on Thursday with the help of a walker and her physical therapist. In their blog entry, her family said "Paul Bunyon better run to keep up. She is determined to get going with her life."
The blog also said physical therapists are praising Bloom for all her hard work, saying she has put in more work than some football players.
Bloom was taken to Denver Health Medical Center immediately following the accident and eventually transferred to Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital for more surgery and treatment to battle infections. She was recently transferred to Children's Hospital for rehabilitation.
Dr. William Brown with Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital said Bloom's athletic background as a swimmer and her positive personality have helped her in her recover.
"Oh, she's an incredible personality," Brown said. "This is a life changing injury that she suffered and she's really done beautifully (in her recover.)"
Denver police charged the limo driver, Stanley Sample, with careless driving resulting in serious bodily injury which is a misdemeanor. If convicted he would face 18 months in jail and a fine up to $5,000.
