Authorities say a man was shot at a Denver gun show in an apparent accident.
Adams County Sheriff's Sgt. Candi Baker says the shooting occurred Saturday afternoon as two friends were looking at a gun that was sitting on a vendor's table and it went off.
"Apparently somebody was looking at the gun, that gun did discharge and one person was struck," Baker said.
She says investigators interviewed the person who was holding the gun as well as numerous witnesses.
"It's a little shocking at a gun show that that would happen, all weapons are supposed to be unloaded and not loadable in the show," witness Jerry Hubbard said.
Weapons are supposed to be checked at the door for ammunition and then zip-tied in a way that they can't be fired.
The victim was taken to Denver Health Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the upper body, but his condition wasn't immediately available.
The shooting occurred during the Tanner Gun Show at the Denver Merchandise Mart near Interstate 25 and East 58th Avenue.
"Actually the whole room went almost completely silent immediately and everybody kind of looked around," Hubbard said.
The show's Web site says it is illegal to have loaded guns inside the show and security personnel disable most guns.
The owner of the Tanner Gun Show says the vendor who had the loaded gun may be banned forever.
