Kidnapped Woman Alerts Police With Cell Phone

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP/CBS4) ― A woman abducted from a Target parking lot by a man who hit her head with a brick, bound her with tape and threw her in the back of her car used a cell phone to alert police.

Police rescued the woman and arrested 41-year-old Timothy Clapp Saturday shortly after the woman called 911 at about 1:07 p.m. Police said Clapp and the woman did not know each other.

Colorado Springs Sergeant Mark Comte said the woman made the call when her abductor left her in her car with her cell phone. She didn't know where she was but was able to describe her car and surroundings.

Police verified her location using the cellular tower transmitting her calls.

The woman, whose name was not released, was transported to Memorial Hospital.

Police found Clapp inside an apartment complex and arrested him.

Investigators said there were some witnesses to the kidnapping at the Target store. One person called 911, but Clapp allegedly had already left before officers arrived.

Police are reviewing the store's surveillance video to see if the crime was caught on tape.

Bond was set for Clapp at $100,000.
