Jesse Jackson In Denver, Praises Obama
DENVER (CBS4) ―
The Rev. Jesse Jackson didn't wait for Denver reporters to ask about the disparaging remarks he made about Barack Obama this week to apologize again for his comments.
Jackson arrived with long time friend, Former Denver Mayor Wellington Webb.
Jackson said Saturday during his visit at a library to speak to black community leaders that Obama has run a "magnificent campaign" and that he was he was embarrassed for his comments during a break from a Fox News program.
Jackson has spent most of the week apologizing after he used a slang reference to wanting to cut off Obama's testicles after Jackson said the Democratic presidential candidate can come off as speaking down to black people. Jackson made the remarks during a break from the taping of "Fox & Friends" on Sunday. Jackson has said he didn't know his microphone was still on.
"I felt embarrassed by it frankly and I apologized quickly and with contrition, he responded quickly and that's a good thing," Jackson said. "That's behind us, our campaign continues."
Denver plays a big role in the Obama campaign and Jackson said he will definitely be back in the Mile High City to support Obama during the Democratic National Convention.
"Of course we'll come back," he said. "I came now because we're kind of making preparations for the convention."
Webb made it clear he was an Obama supporter. He was responsible for bringing Jackson to Denver.
"We all know where we're going to be, we're all going to be on the same page for Senator Obama," Webb said.
Jackson delivered the sermon at the Friendship Baptist Church in Denver Saturday morning. He spoke about numerous issues facing the nation and the nation's African American population.
