Teen Guilty In Crash That Killed His Friends

Neighbors Want Traffic Light At Ward Road Intersection

ARVADA, Colo. (CBS4) ― An 18-year-old man has pleaded guilty in a deadly accident that killed three of his friends in Arvada. People who live near the intersection where the crash happened are still pushing for a safe interchange.

Jeremiah Ogden was charged with three counts of careless driving resulting in death.

Last September, Arvada police say Ogden ran a stop sign at 62nd and Ward Road. A refrigerated delivery truck hit the car.

Ogden's three passengers died and he was hurt.

He faces up to 3 years in jail when he's sentenced in March.

Neighbors want a traffic light at the intersection of 62nd and Ward Road. The Colorado Department of Transportation said a traffic island is enough to make things safer.

"I think that a stoplight would make people slow down," said Katherine Garcia, a neighbor. "You're going to see that red light and you're going to stop. You're going to see this little island in the middle of the street and you're going to slide on through it. Trust me."

The island would prohibit left turns onto Ward Road from 62nd traveling in either direction. It would also prohibit drivers from cutting across the intersection.

"It gives men the attitude the city is more concerned about money than taking care of taxpaying, voting citizens in this area," said Larry Chrisler, another neighbor.

Ward Road is maintained by the state. CDOT and the city talked about sharing the cost of putting up a traffic light back in September. That changed sometime later in favor of the traffic island.

CDOT plans to add the island this summer.
