Hunters Fined For Illegally Killing Elk
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) ―
Two Gunnison County hunters were being ordered to pay stiff fines after illegally killing elk late last year.
The Colorado Division of Wildlife said 49-year-old Larry McGraw paid $1,988 and was assessed 30 penalty points against his hunting license.
He also gave up his rifle.
Twenty-one-year-old Thomas McGraw of Crested Butte was assessed 35 penalty points, and paid a$ 616 fine.
Twenty points is enough for hunters to lose their licenses.
A hearing later this year will determine whether the McGraws lose the ability to buy licenses for hunting and fishing.
Authorities said the McGraws sprayed a herd of elk with gunfire south of Gunnison in November.
Four of the animals died.
