Cherry Creek SUV Firebomber Gets 12 Years In Jail
DENVER (CBS4) ―
A man charged with setting SUVs on fire in Cherry Creek entered a guilty plea in court Wednesday.
Following the plea a judge sentenced Grant Barnes to 12 years in prison.
Procesutors said Barnes, 24, set off a series of homemade explosive devices under seven vehicles in March. No one was hurt and only a few detonated, but several vehicles were heavily damaged in the fires that resulted.
Investigators later said Barnes may have learned how to make the bombs from a Web site linked to the Earth and Animal Liberation Fronts, the group that claimed responsibility for the 1998 fires at Vail Mountain.
One of the cars that Barnes targeted had the letters ELF inscribed on it.
