Denver Police Honor 11-Year-Old Hero
DENVER (CBS4) ―
Denver police are honoring an 11-year-old boy who they say is a hero.
Roman Ross jumped into a pool in his apartment complex over the summer and rescued a little boy who was gasping for air.
On Monday morning Ross received an official Denver police hat, a commendation letter and the Bill Daniels Neighborhood Hero Award at Hill Middle School.
Roman said he was walking by the pool when he saw the boy underwater.
"I jumped in and I pulled up his face. His eyes were closed. I started pulling him up and then when I got up there I said help, help, help," he said.
Paramedics were called and the child was taken to the hospital.
The boy is fine now, in part thanks to Roman's quick action.
About Bill Daniels
Bill Daniels, often called the father of cable television, was born July 1, 1920, in Greeley and died in 2000, leaving behind an estate worth more than $1 billion. Much of that estate went to endow the Daniels Fund which provides scholarships to needy students throughout the Rocky Mountain region. He also requested that his home be left to the city of Denver to be used as the official mayor's residence. He founded Daniels & Associates in 1958 and eventually operated or managed hundreds of cable systems over the years. He also was a decorated naval aviator in World War II and is the namesake of the Bill Daniels Neighborhood Hero Award which is handed out to people in Denver who demonstrate bravery in the community.
