A smart group of students from East High School in Denver is celebrating a national championship.
Reciting lines such as this one by jurist John Marshall: "The greatest scourge an angry heaven ever inflicted upon an ungrateful or sinning people was an ignorant, corrupt, or dependent judiciary," helped the team from East take the national title in the "We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution" competition.
The students were tested on their knowledge of the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Twelve hundred students representing the 50 states attended the finals in Washington.
A special assembly was held on Friday at the school in their honor.
East has represented Colorado in the competition for 18 of the last 20 years.
This is the school's second national title.
