DENVER (CBS4) ― It turned out to be perfect weather for the first-ever Denver Marathon on Sunday. More than 5,000 runners took part in the full, half and relay marathons.

Clint Wells became the first-ever winner for the Denver Marathon with a time of 2:28:36. Taeko Terauchi won the marathon for the women. Local elite racer Alan Culpepper won the half marathon and Dawn Fischer won the half marathon for the women.

Culpepper told CBS4 that he was encouraged by all the support along the course.

"What was really nice was that you kind of double back on some different areas, so the people that were in the race were really supporting me as I was going by," Culpepper said. "That was really cool."

Approximately 30 percent of the people taking part in the marathon were doing were doing one for the first time. That wasn't so for CBS4's news director Tim Wieland. Wieland, a veteran of more than a dozen marathons, finished the race in under 4 hours.
