Denver Catholic Archbishop Charles Chaput addressed parishioners on health care reform, specifically abortion, in a letter read at mass on Sunday.
At the Mother of God Church, Chaput asked Catholics in that letter to demand a change to the reform bill. The archbishop says President Obama failed to keep his promise of not providing public money for abortion in the health care plan.
"The primary concern the archbishop has and that the bishop's conference has is that there will be protection for the unborn, and that public money is not used for abortion. That's the primary concern," Rev. Bernie Schmitz with the Mother of God Church said.
The amendment bans the proposed new government health insurance plan from covering abortions except in cases of rape, incest or where the life of a mother is threatened.
