The Colorado State University Rams are looking to put their off-the-field problems behind them. The University of Colorado is hoping to make last week's loss a distant memory. The two teams meet Saturday for the Rocky Mountain Showdown.
The rivalry, especially when played in Denver, can get down right ugly. So, Denver Police said they are taking no chances during the big game. They've distributed the game day rules to the student body at both universities.
People of drinking age will be able to drink in the parking lots before the game. Alcohol will not be served in the stadium except in the suites and club lounges.
At the old Mile-High Stadium in 1999, Denver police used tear gas and dressed in riot gear. When football fans file into the stadium this year, police said they will be working with a zero tolerance policy.
"We will definitely take you to detox," Detective Virginia Quinones with the Denver Police said.
Earlier this week the "SAFER" Choice Organization, which claims to educate the public about marijuana as a safer alternative for enjoyable recreation, proclaimed CU versus. CSU equaled alcohol. So, they asked that on game day Denver city leaders issue a moratorium on marijuana citations. The police said that will not happen.
"If anyone is caught in possession of any amount of marijuana, it's illegal," Quinones said. "We're going to enforce it, and they're not going to like it."
Uniformed and undercover officers will be at the stadium at 11 a.m., once the parking lots open for tailgaters.
Like in years past, police expect school spirit, just no public fighting.
"If two people are caught fighting, you're both going to be charged," Quinones said.
Small compact umbrellas will be allowed in the stadium. No bottles or cans will be allowed.
On-site parking is limited. There is parking by the Pepsi Center, Auraria Campus and Six Flags.
Police recommend fans get to the gates an hour before kick off because it will take time to get through stadium security.
