Parks & Rec To Release Civic Center Ideas
CBS
The Denver Parks and Recreation Department will share opinions from more than 1,000 residents about how to spruce up Civic Center Park. Parks and Rec started gathering opinions by presenting designs developed by Denver Art Museum architect Daniel Libeskind.
That Libeskind presentation was made in August and was followed by a series of public meetings. In addition, residents filed out 677 written surveys voicing their opinions.
Park officials compiled the input from the meetings and the written surveys and will present them at a meeting on Jan. 11. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Colorado Historical Society Museum at 1300 Broadway.
The department said the process has given it a greater understanding of the priorities for Civic Center and a better grasp of preferences for improving the park.
"The Libeskind ideas presented some bold concepts for revitalizing the park," said Denver Parks and Recreation Manager Kim Bailey in a news release . "It sparked a very productive public conversation."
"The number one priority will continue to be preservation of our historic features," she added.
Currently there is not money to pay for for major improvements but the findings of the study will be kept when the funds do become available in the future.
The Civic Center Conservancy contracted Libeskind to develop the conceptual ideas specifically to start a public dialogue and increase interest in the project.
